RunLock
A rope made of loops
RunLock is a braided polyester rope whose two halves are braided together every few centimetres and run free in between. Every free stretch is a loop, and every lock is the rope through one of its own loops. No knots, no hardware, nothing to retie.
One loop, join to join: 40 mm on No 4, 65 mm on No 20How it is made
Braided from polyester threads in two groups, one for each side. The size number is the number of threads per side: No 4 has 4 + 4, No 20 has 20 + 20, and every thread is three yarns twisted together.
On the braiding machine the two groups are braided through each other for a short stretch, run apart, and are braided together again. Each time they meet, the groups swap sides. The free stretch is the loop; the braided join carries the load.
100 % polyester, nothing added. Braided, tested, cut and packed in Tösse, Sweden.
A running loop on a tow ball: the loop tightens under load and opens when the load is off.Compared with an ordinary rope
- No knots Push the rope through one of its own loops and it locks. Nothing to tie, nothing to pick apart after a heavy load.
- Full strength at the lock A knot bends a rope sharply and weakens it. RunLock loads the braided join, so the rope holds its full rating at every lock.
- Adjustable in steps Move the end one loop and the rope is one loop shorter. Set a tie-down or a leash length in seconds.
- Built-in stretch 21 to 25 % before it breaks, and it springs back. In a towing line that turns a jerk into a pull; in a tie-down it keeps the load tight as it settles.
- Every cut length is a complete tool Cut across the middle of a loop, melt the ends, done. No eyes to splice, no hooks to add. Two ropes join loop to loop.
- Polyester Washable, UV- and salt-water resistant, does not rot.
The four locks
Every lock is the same move, the rope through one of its own loops. Four variations cover everything from a tow hitch to a washing line.

Fixed loopKeeps its size whatever the load. Carabiners, rings, hand grips.Step by step

Try it
Try the locks on a 3D rope, on runlock.se
A loose rope on a wall with two hooks and a ring. Drag it, thread it, hang it, lock it: nothing is scripted, the locks hold because the rope grips itself, just like the real one. Press Show me a lock and it ties the running loop for you. Turn the view with a right-drag, or two fingers on a phone.

The number is the size. Diameter, loop length, strength and stretch all grow with it. When in doubt, take the next size up. Click a size to choose it.
| Size | Diameter | Loop | Breaking strength | Stretch | Weight | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| This size | 4 mm | 40 mm | 170 kg | 21 % | 13 g/m | Washing lines, tent lines, hanging gear in the camp |
| This size | 5 mm | 45 mm | 230 kg | 21 % | 20 g/m | Leashes, fender lines, light tie-downs |
| This size | 6 mm | 45 mm | 290 kg | 22 % | 28 g/m | The all-round size: cargo on the trailer, the canoe on the roof, the gate |
| This size | 8 mm | 50 mm | 480 kg | 22 % | 43 g/m | Heavier tie-downs, longer runs, dragging by hand |
| This size | 10 mm | 60 mm | 580 kg | 23 % | 57 g/m | Dragging game, pulling by hand, quads, mooring small boats |
| This size | 12 mm | 65 mm | 700 kg | 25 % | 73 g/m | Towing cars, 4x4 and snowmobiles, heavy dragging, larger boats |
| This size | 24 mm | 90 mm | 1500 kg | 30 % | 146 g/m | The heaviest size: the heaviest pulls and tie-downs |
Breaking strength is rated with a margin below the force measured by RISE (report 6P01208); stretch is the elongation at break in the same test. No 40 was not part of that test. RunLock is a rope for pulling, tying down, hanging and leading, not a lifting sling or a climbing rope.

Five colours, the same rope in all of them. Fluorescent orange and yellow for what you need to find again, blue, black and white for the rest.
By the metre or in a 10 m pack
Every size and colour comes both ways.
RunLock by the metre, in every size and colour. Cut across the middle of a loop, melt the ends with a lighter, and the piece is ready to use. Less than a full roll is supplied on a smaller roll or as a hank.
